Sport in Alicante

Actually, all other kinds of sports can be inclined in Alicante with the apparent exception of winter sports from aerial sports to horse riding, from shooting to tennis. The so-called Parque Deportivo Tossal is Alicante´s one outstanding place for sports. It is concentrated in one single perimeter of the superior public infrastructures in the city such as the sports grounds of the hippodrome, Athletics Stadium, José Rico Pérez football stadium, Central Pavilion, the gymnasium centre, Sports City, and the swimming pool complex. Spanish and European events as well as world championships have been celebrated in some of these installations.

The location of the Royal Regatta Club and the Alicante Sports Marina is the most interior area of the seaport. Royal Regatta Club has a smaller harbor area closed to skeet shooting range. Costa Blanca Yacht Club can be found in line with Albufereta Beach and there are so many golf courses to select from. At the site of Playa de San Juan, Alicante Golf Club made by Seve Ballesteros is found. There are three other preferences in the vicinity: Alenda on the Madrid Street of Montforte Del Cid town, Mutxamel’s Club Bonalba and the satellite city outside Alicante known as El Plantío in Bacarot.

Moors and Christians in Alicante

- This is a traditional feast, memoirs of previous Christian war for taking back these territories from the hands of Moors. This is held in different quarters of Alicante by means of entradas or entry processions.

Alicante Carnival

During this festival, even the benches on the streets are particularly ornamented. Sábado Ramblero parades are held during Saturdays going down to Rambla Avenue introducing carnival costumes. It ends with Burial of the Sardine and Funeral Wake festivals held before Ash Wednesday. Semana Santa - A total of 27 fellowships take part in processions from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday bringing effigies or floats known as pasos. Some of which are genuine creation by popular artists such as Bussi, Salzillo, Castillo Lastrucci or Avalos.

Hogueras de San Juan in Alicante

Announced to be one of International Tourist preference, this is the most prominent festivity done in Alicante. It is followed on the primitive tradition of burning of no use objects to commemorate the summer solstice, bridging with the St John the Baptist feast day.

Porrat de San Antón in Alicante

Trading typical products on medieval fair with street stalls, such as dried nuts and fruits, quince jelly and sugared fruits including traditional blessing and animal shows in the bullring. This feast is held on St Anthony's Day.

The Pilgrimage of the Holy Visage in Alicante

This is a very famous journey wherein in one single day, some 200,000 people wearing ordinary dress carrying banners, walk to the Santa Faz monastery to adore the shrine. This is held Thursday after Easter week. Cruces de Mayo - The Santa Cruz place of the city costumed up for May with crosses made of sweet-smelling flowers are lined over the streets. From May1 to 3, dances and games for children are staged with finest awards.
